Request forMemory Assessment pre-op

Has anyone experienced a medical team requesting a memory assessment be carried out on someone with dementia or Alzheimers pre-op on a necessary operation for an abdominal aneurysm by endovascular procedure?Recent appointment with Psychiatrist revealed that this was 'highly unusual' and had never been asked to do this before.

Hi @Lilyanna . Ive not come across this, but then Ive not come across anyone with dementia needing surgery for an abdominal aneurysm. Im assuming that the rationale behind this is because any sort of surgery, and particularly one that needs general anaesthetic, can progress dementia.

It was hoped it would be carried out by spinal block, inserting a stent by keyhole surgery through the groin, alleviating the need for general anaesthetic.
