the past year...

I see so many of you chatting/talking wondering.....Mom is in stage & there is no going further with her in any direction, but if what I am about to show you will help those of you new to alzheimers live in the today also and understand what is going to happen this will be worth it. These are pictures of the last Year......January of last year....moms way of getting out of a windblown hairdo when the windows are down..(January 2007)

I guess the reason I posted these aree for those of you who are new and for those of you who are scared of what is to come...Mom was the type of mother who would drag me out of bed to see a sky full of falling stars or take me down to the plaza at midnite to resign the declaration of independance 200 yrs later (boy was I beat the next day)...I figure that someday she'll be tellin all her angels about what we did..even after she no longer could remember yesterday...that happened almost 3 years ago. But I never chose to put life on hold while me and help could still make those memories because now we are no longer able to take her to make those memories........I apologize for the rainbow being so pixelated...my oldest son sent it to me from his phone..with the caption..I FOUND THE END OF THE RAINBOW

Hi citybythesea

At first, I smiled and then went further down the thread, took a closer look and then you made me cry. For the first time in a long time someone other than my mum and dad made me cry. Why, because you are speaking and indeed showing your photos from 'the heart'. And I thank you for that. What a waste of a life.

What wonderful pictures of your mum - she sounds like a very special and unique mum.

Actually she sounds like the kind of mum I'm trying to be - one who shows her children the spontaneity and joy of life. I think I'll have to wake my daughter one night to show her the stars.

Thank you for sharing.

Great and have a lovely time!

If you get a picture please post it. I will be in London and the light pollution takes the edge of such events. I think dragging my daughter out of bed and driving her to the lake district may be pushing it :)

HI Citybythesea

Thank you for sharing these.

I have a set of pictures too, that I recently downloaded off my mobile phone that show a snapshot of my life over the last couple of years. There is the justaposition for me of life plus visits to Mum, living versus the background grief but love there too nonetheless.

Having been through it all my advice is live for the now, have no regrets and do not be afraid. It is not as scary as you think, although you will be sad. I think this is what you are doing and doing so well.

((((hugs))))))))

Love

Mameeskye

Beautiful pictures

Hi Citybythesea,
Your pictures are beautiful and speak for themselves. My mother is also at the end stage and I recognized the "look" in the progression.

Thank you for such a wonderful gift.

Please post more memories here...

I hope my pictures have helped some of you and for those of you still trying to be that type of mom.....good luck....I wasn't the same type of mom mine was but they still got the memories (tho I think my kids are waiting for the right moment to put me in a "hospital". This was my year and for those of you who have memories on digital please post them here with me so that we may have those memories always and help others not to be afraid. Someday this disease will no longer be dreaded...we just have to give science time.....and our bodies a break from the hurried lifestyle we live and get back to basics of family and life.

Dear Citybythesea
Thank you for sharing your precious moments. Amidst the chaos and grief of dementia the wonderful moments are there, whe have to be ready to find them. I have some wonderful photos of Dad with his grandsons, I will try to put them online.
I am working full time at the moment and it can take the edge off spontaneity. But I applaud all mums who drag their children out of bed to witness a special event. I got my eldest out of bed (at 2 in the mmorning) to watch the badger who regulaly visits our garden - amazing!!There are somethings you just have to do!!
take care
hendy
ps if we can drag ourselves out of bed we will do likewise to our offspring to watch the meteor shower - thanks Craig!
