I work for the alzheimer's Society as a Branch Manager in Hastings & Rother and am looking for advice and help from people with early onset dementia as to the support you would ideally like to have. I feel to often that 'professionals' myself included make assumptions that are way off track. Hoping to hear from anyone.

Dear Rosemary

Have you heard about Mabon house in Nottingham, it is a day centre for younger people with dementia, my husband goes there two days a week, and he loves it. Almost all the other people who attend like it too.

Hello Rosemary
My husband has early onset AD and enjoys a local social group that meets twice a month. It was set up by the local early onset dementia nurse and encourages younger dementia sufferers to socialise with others in a similar position. They sometimes play dominoes etc in a local pub or go for trips out with the help of local care workers. My husband enjoys it as he was isolating himself in the house while I was at work and meeting other young AD suffereres helps him to accept he's not on his own. It has helps him to feel he can still function in normal situations with back up if necessary.

My husband goes to a day centre as well and they are wonderful, Bobby loves it and they offer support to the carers as well.
I still need time for me and the 2 days he's there are a real help for us both.
