Can anyone jog my memory on the act which allows people with dementia/Alzheimer's or other mental impediment to be able to make their own decisions.

I think you are thinking about the mental capacity act 2005, but that is something which is concerned with people who cant make decisions

It is the Mental Capacity Act 2005. In fact it encourages everyone to consult people, even those deemed to be without capacity, as much as possible. This is particularly the case when a person might have variable capacity, or capacity to make a decision about some things but not about others.
