Hello @Purplegirl you are welcome here and I hope you find the forum to be a friendly and supportive place.

I hope you have time to take a good look around the site as it is a goldmine for information. When I first joined I read old threads for information but then found the AS Publications list and the page where a post code search can be done to check for support services in ones own area. If you are interested in these, clicking the following links will take you there

https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/get-support/publications-factsheets-full-list

https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/find-support-near-you

You will see that there are Factsheets that will help with things like getting care needs assessments, deciding the level of care required and sorting out useful things like Wills, Power of Attorney etc., if any of that hasn't already been done. There is also a Dementia Guide in the list.

Now that you have found us I hope you will keep posting as the membership has vast collective knowledge and experience.

Hullo and welcome from me too, @Purplegirl. I think the links Pete has posted and reading threads will get you most of the info you will need as you struggle to help your family in these hard times. It's always worth speaking to your local authority social services to see if they can provide any support you or your mum might need. You are entitled to a carers assessment and she to a care needs assessment.

hello @Purplegirl
a warm welcome from me too
you've found exactly the right place for support and information
post anything that's on your mind as members are understanding and generous with their sympathy and useful suggestions

the time after a diagnosis is tough, you're all coming to grips with something no-one wants to have to face ... take time to breathe and process this news, and keep in mind that your mum is the same person today she was shortly before the diagnosis, it's just that you now have a 'name' for what you all have been concerned about ... cherish the time you have together and make some memories that you will treasure

Thank you, you are so right, we are all trying to process this, it’s been so hard the last few years trying to get her to agree to be tested etc and now we have a diagnosis it just makes it all so real now. Also as everyone else is struggling, Covid restrictions really make it much more worse. Thanks again .
