Hi, can anyone tell me in an easy to understand way whether it is worth applying for deputyship?

I'm struggling with How would I pay for it? Should I let the LA do it instead? Please bear in mind there is no POA or will or anything similar.
I am waiting for age UK to contact me with advice

Thanks

Hello @Maeny
If no-one has POA and your person with dementia no longer has the capacity to consent to POA, then unfortunately, deputyship is the only answer. Someone will need to apply and if you dont and the LA want their fees paid, then they will apply themselves.

The money for the Court of Protection comes from the person with dementia themselves - you dont have to pay it. If the LA applies for deputyship then a solicitor will be appointed by the CoP who will have fees also paid for by your mum.

Applying for CoP deputyship can take time, but I opted to apply as I didnt want a stranger dealing with mums finances and having complete control over her property and possessions as well as her savings.
