When my Dad was in hospital he was very agitated and anxious and I asked him to be reviewed by the elderly mental health team. The day before he was discharged he was prescribed promethazine when needed. I've read that this is used as a sedative and to help with sleep.
He is now in a nursing home and when he first arrived he was very difficult and would almost have panic attacks every time they tried to help him with his personal care. He has started to settle now but the last few visits he has seemed very sleepy. I wondered if anyone knew anything about promethazine and alzheimers?

I’m wondering why Alzheimers Society aren’t offering answers here. Our mum is in care & is starting on a low dose, so it needs monitoring

I seem to remember that this drug is in anti histamines. Usually the ones on prescription but you can buy it over the counter too. The routine type did not cure my husbands itching and so he was put on this stronger one which also helped him to sleep.
