Hubbie with dementia was awarded ongoing pip award when DLA expired.
Hubbie will reach state pension age next April (2021)

From what can assertain hewill not need to renew his pip when he reaches state pension age.
Can anyone advise

All I can say is that mine was originally granted for 2 years, then renewed for 3 years, now its ongoing. However, no dementia involved! And I reached 65 during the 2 year period.

I'm not an expert in this area but as far as I am aware the ongoing PIP will just carry on when he reaches state pension age. Generally an ongoing PIP is reviewed only every 10 years, and they were intending to make this a 'light touch' review. I think at anytime either you or them can ask for a reassessment at any time, and probably the only time this would benefit your husband would be if he didn't get the higher care amount at the original assessment and you now think his needs have changed. Otherwise there is no point in asking for reassessment. Hope this helps
