Did you hear about the nursing home in the path of the hurricane?

Relatives were ringing to find out if their loved one's would be ok and they were told not to worry.

They find out later the staff had gone left them to die.

It's made me upset and extrememly angry.

Bast*rds!!!!!

Sorry but it's hit a very raw nerve with me and you know why.

That's just absolutely terrible... I was just commenting on this yesterday when I saw some stuff on the news, and I thought: what about all the care/nursing homes etc. what about the people in them?

I'm just so thankful that we in this country are (touch wood) not prone to such disasters as this one... but I will honestly say now, that as someone who is in 'the Caring Profession' I could NOT leave people to suffer just to save my own skin... good God, I went into nursing because I WANT to help people!

Self preservation's one thing - but abandonment?

Maybe I'm being too subjective here... not sure if there are other issues to address, so I looked up the following on the internet:

http://www.2theadvocate.com/stories/091005/new_nursinghome001.shtml

http://www.capetimes.co.za/index.php?fSectionId=272&fArticleId=2869955

Whatever the outcome, I'm sure there's going to be a lot of questions answered as to why this happened.
