Hi all
My name is Karen and i am new on here.
My Dad is 96 and in hospital. He has had memory problems for at least a year now but apparently passed a memory test last May.I beg to differ on this but the consultant did the test without me present.
Anyway he's is hospital, and his delusions are terrible. His aggression has been getting worse over a year. He's fine somedays but up with the fairies the next.
He's had blood tests but nothing else.He went in with a broken arm.
I asked the ward manager, she said it's just age related memory loss.Is there any tests for dementia or Alzheimer's?
Thanks for reading.

"...Is there any tests for dementia or Alzheimer's?..."

Apart from clinical observation there is only a CT or MRI scan of the brain which can show deterioration.

Hi Karen, welcome to Talking Point, while I'm sorry that you had to find yourself here, you'll find that there's loads of information and support available - just ask.

I asked the ward manager, she said it's just age related memory loss.

It's called denial and we faced it when MIL went into hospital. Keep pressing and I hope you find an ally along the way - they do exist and you'll know them when they appear.

Does your Dad still live at home? If so, there will need to be a best interest meeting before he's discharged and you might get some help there. The hospital social worker was the one who stepped in and helped us sort things.

In the meantime, these factsheets might help:

I'm sure someone will be along in a minute with more and better advice. Good luck:)
