Hi everyone,I'm looking for some help.
My mum a little while ago was diagnosed with early onset alzheimer's and I don't really know how to help I feel my mum is in denial of this and how bad she is but my dad is also not coping and I sometime feel the way he speaks to mum is unneeded as he can become very unsettled when stressed and I feel this impacts my mum xl,but he is very regimental with routines which to a element is prob helpful but I dont think how these ae being reminded off helpful . I feel that they both dont want to deal.with what's happened and my mum seems to not want to socialise when it would be good for her and she has not heard anything from the support officer at the beginning .everytime I come away from my parents house I feel anxious as my dad also will not accept any help from all 3 of us . How do I approach all ok this . Any help or advise needed. I have a little one so I maynot be able to respond very quickly .thanks for reading .

Hello @Kbf, you are welcome here and I hope you find the forum to be a friendly and supportive place.

Diagnosis is always a shock to the system and it takes a while to get things sorted. My wife was early onset so I know where you are with this.

I hope you have time to take a good look around the site as it is a goldmine for information. When I first joined I read old threads for information but then found the AS Publications list and the page where a post code search can be done to check for support services in ones own area. If you are interested in these, clicking the following links will take you there

https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/get-support/publications-factsheets-full-list

https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/find-support-near-you

You will see that there are Factsheets that will help with things like getting care needs assessments, deciding the level of care required and sorting out useful things like Wills, Power of Attorney etc., if any of that hasn't already been done. There is also a Dementia Guide in the list.

Now that you have found us I hope you will keep posting as the membership has vast collective knowledge and experience.

Hello @Kbf
I see you have already received good advice above.
In addition I noticed you mentioned that you believe your "... mum is in denial ..." of her diagnosis, and I thought it important to highlight that because of the diagnosis there is a significant risk that your mum will not be able to comprehend the diagnosis itself. Also, I wonder whether your Dad really understands what is meant by your mum's diagnosis, and so you may need to continue to support him to understand how your mum is hindered by this disease.
Hope this helps,
Paco
