My husband as just recently been diagnosed with dementia, but I am sure he has had it for a couple of years, it has taken so long in the fact that he refused to go to the doctors and it has only been because of COVID that I have been able to any kind of diagnose for him.
I feel as though I am drowning all the time, we are trying now to arrange some help or care for him while I am working.
I sometime think that I am letting him down,I know that is not right but it is hard to talk to him and getting no respond from him

Hello @Burnlee you are welcome here and I hope you find the forum to be a friendly and supportive place.

I hope you have time to take a good look around the site as it is a goldmine for information. When I first joined I read old threads for information but then found the AS Publications list and the page where a post code search can be done to check for support services in ones own area. If you are interested in these, clicking the following links will take you there

https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/get-support/publications-factsheets-full-list

https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/find-support-near-you

You will see that there are Factsheets that will help with things like getting care needs assessments, deciding the level of care required and sorting out useful things like Wills, Power of Attorney etc., if any of that hasn't already been done. There is also a Dementia Guide in the list.

Now that you have found us I hope you will keep posting as the membership has vast collective knowledge and experience.

Hello @Burnlee Welcome to Dementia Talking Point.

It will be very difficult for you if you are still working and I hope you will be able to find some care for your husband as soon as possible.

It`s even more difficult now with the pandemic so I do hope you won`t have to wait too long.

I`m sure you are not letting him down. There is very little we can do to include our partners in decision making and discussion and the realisation we as carers have to be prepared to make decisions single handedly is a tough call.

I hope you will find this forum helpful and supportive and maybe not feel quite so isolated as you feel now.

Thank you for the welcome, I am in the process of getting the help we need, I must admit that from the first consultation April with the neurologist it has been quick in happening, but I think that is because I stuck my head in the sand at the beginning and didn’t request any help, but he has gone down hill so quickly.
Once again thank you
