Hi everyone my mum has been in residential home for 6weeks now it was for emergency respite so we had to take what was available at the time. Now the family have had a chance to breath and get our heads around this situation we had a family meeting and decided to try and move mum to a residential home closer to us. But not sure how to go about it. Will mum need a place assessment at the home she is already in or do you find somewhere that's got available space and move mum ourselves . I'm guessing it's not going to be as simple as that somehow

Is she self-funding? Then you just contact the care home of your choice for an empty bed, have them assess her and job done.

If she's funded by the LA, they have to give you at least one choice that meets her needs within their budget. If they can't find one like that within their budget, they will have to up it. But if the care home of your choice is more expensive while another cheaper one meeting her needs would have been available, they'll ask for a top-up to be paid.
