So sorry to hear about your mum. :(

One piece of advice I can give you straight off is to sort out power of attorney, unless you're ahead on that one already.

It's one of those things that's sometimes difficult to talk about and dementia can bring out all kinds of paranoias (often about money) but it's really worth trying everything to put something in place now. Your mum is very likely to stop being able to manage her financial affairs at some point, if she hasn't already, and things can get substantially more difficult without a PoA. Unless financial affairs are very complicated, many solicitors will deal with this for a fixed fee, and plenty of people go the DIY route.
