@Wantmyhusbandback, what a lot of us have done in similar situations is write to the GP explaining our concerns and asking if he/she would call our loved one in for the sort of check
@Bod mentioned.
This is what I did with my mum, though first off I just piggybacked an appointment she had for something else and handed him a letter with my concerns. It's a good idea to do it as bullet points and cut down on extra information so it is easy for the doctor to see what your concerns are.
It might take several goes to get somewhere, as in the early stages people with dementia can often do very well on the sort of mini memory tests doctors use.
