Mum was put in care home because she was a danger to herself and others, should she be funded by NHS.

As far as I'm aware hooch it isn't the reason for care home placement that determines whether or not LA funding is given it is the financial circumstances of the person in terms of assets/savings/home ownership etc. There is a lot of info on the internet this is one link that takes you the basics - http://www.carehome.co.uk/fees/feeschart.cfm

Ask for your mum to be assessed to see if she qualifies for Continuing Health Care. It's not easy to get, but at least ask for the initial checklist to be completed. If you search the forum for this or the abbreviation CHC you'll find a lot of discussion about this topic.

The NHS will only fund your mother's care if she gets CHC funding. Otherwise she will be self-funding unless her savings/assets are below the £23,000 threshold.
