mum had to go into hospital today

mum had to go into hospital today and it wasn't pleasant.

when I had to leave her she would not stay. if I went to leave she would just try and follow me saying she wanted to go home. eventually they calmed her down and sedated her.

I don't know what it will be like when eventually she does have to go into a home.

looking ahead

If your mum does have to go into a home she will probably, but not necessarily, find it difficult at first, just as she did the hospital, because the place and people are strange to her. However she will settle and you will find it is a great weight off your mind to know she is safe and being looked after. it's a hard journey for us all but stick in there.

That was certainly the case with my mom when she moved to the Alzheimer's home. The first couple of weeks she was very depressed and lonely, of course not really understanding where she was, just that this was "a terrible place." After a few weeks though she was saying how nice everyone there was and how she just loved so many people there.
