My mother died at the age of 80 this morning. She had gone into hospital with pneumonia and lasted almost six days. Her family and friends made sure that she always had someone with her day and night. I slept in the room last night and she stopped breathing just after I had got up and sat on the chair by her bed to watch. I like to think that she was waiting for me to get myself ready but it is easy to read too much into coincidences.

Thank you to everyone involved with the Alzheimers Society who has helped me over the past five years. It has made me determined to help in supporting people who have dementia, their carers and to help medical research.
