Hi all

I help to care for my Great Aunt, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease 6 months ago. Until a few months before her diagnosis, she had visited the same local Hairdresser for around 25 years, but stopped going when she started to get confused and miss appointments.

Part of helping my Great Aunt to feel a bit more like her pre-Alzheimer's self, will be arranging for her to have her hair cut and styled regularly, as she is used to. She would not cope with visiting a Salon these days, so we have suggested having a Mobile Hairdresser visit her at home, which she has said she would be comfortable with. So... we are hoping that others in similar situations may have a suggestion of a suitable person please? She remains a positive, friendly person and sometimes shows awareness of her memory decline. She has not been violent in any way.

We are looking for:
  • A Dementia/Alzheimer's-friendly person, who has a good understanding of the condition
  • Someone who can cope with the challenges Alzheimer's can bring
  • Someone with a caring and understanding attitude
  • A Mobile Hairdresser who works in Berkshire and is willing to travel to the Client's own home in Bray
  • Someone who is familiar with cutting and styling the hair of ladies in their 80's
Any recommendations will be very gratefully received - many thanks in advance for your help!

Kind regards, Busy-Betsy

That's a good idea - thank you! It's given me a thought actually; perhaps I'll call any Dementia/Alzheimer's Specialist Care Homes in her area and ask them who they use. Thanks for your help!

That's a good idea I hope you find somebody helpful that can give you a contact and not the "I'm not allowed to give you any information like that"response

It's not like I want to come into the Care Home, watch the Stylists cut the ladies' hair, inspect the scissors, ensure the combs are up to my exacting standards and get video taped evidence of the Patients reviewing their haircuts, so fingers crossed!
