To be brutally honest, I suppose the issue is that at least some people with a cancer diagnosis will survive and live another 40 or 50 years. Unfortunately, that's not on the cards for our loved ones. Furthermore, the majority of dementia sufferers have paid off their mortgage at some point in the past, so it's not a big bad mortgage company (easy to demonise) who is taking the house.
