I’m not saying you’ve changed
Not from me will they hear
How different you are
They who tell of your past

I’ll not mention the mess
You know when,
against all odds,
You do your best

They won’t get me to say
You’ve forgotten my name
For what’s in a name
I’m still the same

I’ll not tell them the truth
I’ll just feed them some lies
All around love
Then they won’t hear the cries

I’ll say we still hug
How, under the sheets, it’s still ecstatic
And under the stars
It is still romantic

You keep drifting away
You’ve nearly gone now
I grab hold of your hand
To get you to stay

And stay you do
If just for a while
But it’s worth the waiting
For yet one more smile

I don’t mind lying
Telling them fibs
This secret is ours
Well and truly hid

You may tend to forget
Some minor detail
But eh! Who cares?
They won’t send you to jail

I can do the remembering
I can do the day to day stuff
I’ll go to the shops and remember to cook
I’ll even tell them nothing has changed
I’d even lie for us
Not just you but us
It is for me as well
That things stay the same

You see, I would be lost without you
It’s bad enough when you don’t respond
To my advances and open arms
And lips upon lips

I know I’ve not lost my touch
For sometimes there’s a spark
Just a slight recognition
Then just as quick it is gone

I live for the day
When it all comes back
And our passion returns
Just as fast as it went

Until then, my love,
I shall tell them these lies
They will not know
That anything’s changed

Lies they may be
But not ordinary lies
These are the kindest type
These are love lies

I don't log in here now, unless I think there is a need, eg someone in distress.
But this poem is truly remarkable, and I have to say it to you.
Forget all those ridiculous tv ads -- with their cynical worldly lies -- in these lines you have spoken my world, and I'm sure the world of thousands of other carers.
Thank you, from the bottom of my weary heart.
