Lost dentures

Please can any one help. My dad has dementia. He is in a care home. He has lost his top set of dentures. No where to be found. He can be incredibly uncooperative. What can I do. He doesn't go out and doesn't have dentist.

How well does he manage without?
It may not be worth the hassle getting a new set.
If you ask when ordering a new set, I believe names can be set in.

I would put the ball in the care home's court. They've lost them, they should replace them. Plus, they ought to have a dentist that visits the home, surely?

I hope the teeth are found but agree with Beate the home are responsible and should contact your father's dentist to see if they can get a new denture made on old impressions if he is unable to cooperate with new. Like Kassy, a friend I lost 8 years ago now had her dentures lost by the hospital and the home and wondered why I was angry and why she was losing weight. The nurse at the home threw out the bottom set because the top set had been lost in hospital

hubby had only been in care 2 months and lost 2 sets of dentures [had just had these made with our own dentist before he went in] 3 pairs glasses the care home paid for a replacement dentures as we had ask them to put them in a pot [provided ]with a lid at nights they didnt .the care home has no dentist so i had to find one that would go to the home ,but to date hubby has been in care one year now and we are still 2 pairs glasses missing and 2 sets of top dentures, have you tried looking on top of the wardrobes we found some of hubbys up there,best of luck with your hunt

When my dad lost his in the care home one of the ladies had them in her handbag so make sure they check other residents.

Another time, one of the other residents had his set in ( God knows!!)

Third time they were stuck down the side of the bed.

Have you been through his room and checked all his clothes?

When my dad lost his the last time I didn't bother to replace them as he was having trouble putting them in and was increasingly taking them out. He managed fine without them. But when I contacted a local denture specialist he said he would come out to the carehome and take the mould.

This happened to my mum whilst in the care home, in fact it happened more than once and finally we lost them altogether. I'm sure you've done this already but it's worth asking the home's laundry, catering staff etc to check and double-check everything. Depending on the stage you're at with your dads dementia it may or may not be an option to get new ones. The problem is that if he's incredibly uncooperative he is unlikely to accept the intrusive process of being measured etc. If he can manage without then that's definitely your best option. Alternatively you could ask the home to bring more pureed food in to his diet. Good luck, Martin

ah I hear you
Dad lost the first set in hospital 1 and on transfer to hospital 2 lost the other set
I left notes daily for 3 months and was just told they couldn't be found
So after 3 months enough was enough and I contacted PALS at the hospital and next day I was told to get a quote for new ones and the 2 hospitals would share the cost
Dad is at home and not mobile so for me to get him to a dentist is proving difficult.
Most said its 4-5 visits
However had he been in a home or hospital I was told they can arrange a dentist to visit
Good luck and if anyone knows if dentists do home visits .... Send them my way
