Hi my friend whom i look after is coming out of hospital on Monday after an infection and is physicaly well but he does not of seemed to come back mentally. He is still hallucinating and very confused, living in the past. I have no experience of this disease am am still waiting for the results for a diagnosis, but when do you think i should start looking for a permanant nursing home as i do not think i can cope when he gets to the stage when he does not reconise me. How far away is that (how long is a piece of string).

Dear Doris, once a diagnoses has been made, you will know what is likely to happen. The specialists should be able to give you some guidlines if it is dementia. But there is nothing to stop you from looking at possible homes for the future and getting your friend on the waiting list. Bearing in mind that you will need an EMI hime if dementia is the diagnoses. Then, if/when things get too much, the move can be arranged. Good luck, love She. XX
