My father has lewy bodies with Parkinson's and in a care home.
My issue is they are no longing will g to take my dad out and saying that I can't take him out . He sometimes gets out of his wheel chair. They say that a lap belt is considered retraining they won't budge on the issue . I keep saying that surely a seat belt style belt can be used . Please help

Hi @Maria 33 and welcome to Tp. I’m sorry to hear about your issues with your dad. I don’t personally have any experience or any suggestions but hopefully someone will be along soon who will have .

Welcome to DTP @Maria 33

I understood that lap belts on wheelchairs were a safety device to stop the user being thrown from the chair by accident. It's certainly the case with a child in a pushchair - I wouldn't dream of not fastening them safely in.

The only similar incident I had was in my mum's carehome where they refused to fasten her in her chair as it was restraining - but she's forgotten she couldn't walk and kept getting up and falling...with the risk of injury.

Sometimes I think a bit of common sense would go a long way!
