Keeping the patient occupied

Hello,
Can anyone advise me: my father-in-law (newly diagnosed) is staying with us. At his own home, he is normally active (washing-up, helping with the cooking, pottering in the garden etc)
I've been trying to involve him a bit here (shelling peas, washing up a few cups etc) but, although he agrees, he seems a little reluctant, as if he's tired. Should I just leave him watching the TV or is it worth encouraging him to do a few things each day?

Goodmorning Francesca,

It may be that as your FIL is out of his usual environment and routine, he will need more help and encourangment.

He may be unsure of exactly where things are placed, and sequencing is a matter of habit he may be experiencing some mild confusion.

I would carry on as you are, with lots of encouragement and praise.
