hi jorgieporgie sounds that you had a bad week. Like you take each day at a time. I have had a bad week. On Wednesday barry very agitated in the morning but ok in the afternoon. But at night never done this before but chased me upstairs with a carving knife so had to have a few safety things put in the house this week like child safety things on kitchen drawers to keep sharp knives safe and also my son had a key safety case fitted outside to keep a spare key and a spare set of car keys so could get away if I have too. Also had gypsies round area and they talked barry into having roof done and left us with the mess and it took 10 of us to clear the mess up so was very upset about this. All cleared up now. Hope you have a better week with your Mum. Take care and glad to hear from you anytime. Luv Julie xx
Ps Yes we do live near the beach xx

Hi grove. Hope you have a better week. We have had a really bad week. Barry was very agitated on wednesday and chased me upstairs with a carving knife. Managed to get out of the house and now we have had to have some safety devices put on the house like safety things on kitchen drawers so that sharp knives can be kept safe. Also my son has has had a key case put on the wall outside so spare car keys and door keys can be easily accessed. Put in for AA benefit and been awarded the full amount which is great but rather have him back as he was instead of money. Take care please reply if you have time. Luv Julie xx

Oh JulieW1 you should not have to put up with been chased with a knife. Would you think about having him put in respite to monitor his behaviour, maybe needs meds sorting out. If you ring SS they will sort it out as he his a danger to you and himself. Did you pay the gypsies as you could refuse and get the police as he isn't in right state of mind and they took advantage of him. What an awful time your having. Big hugs sent to you xx

Hi everyone. My name is Julie and my husband has dementia. I have joined Talking point becuase at times I feel very alone. My husband was diagnosed with mixed dementia three to four years ago and has gradually deteriorated. He was an accountant and very intelligent and I feel so sad to see him like this. Some of the things we cope with is that he mostly has to be supervised and cannot go anywhere on his own. He had to stop driving last year because he popped out and ended up 16 miles away driving on the wrong side of the road totally confused. He has to be helped with dressing and choosing what he puts on and prompted to change his underwear. He has now lost track of time and sometimes goes to bed early and then is up and down all night, he even got out on a few nights and wondered off to look for the cat. He has locked me out on numerous occasions and he sometimes gets very aggressive which is not like him at all he was such a placid man which upsets me but I try not to get upset because my family tell me its not really him and he doesnt remember anything about it afterwards so I do not mention it so he doesnt get upset. I am sure that all of you have gone through all of this and probably more and it would be lovely to hear from you. Thank you.
Just saw your post now Julie. It is so difficult. I hope you have support.

Hi Julie

Glad you have found TP. It is a brilliant place to be and so much support from members. Your being chased with a knife sounds really scary. I have a bit of a phobia about sharp knives so I would be absolutely terrified.
Hope you are okay and they manage to get your hubbie stable with a change of meds
best wishes xx

sounds a wise move the safety devices! lovely to hear from you. Your are never alone on TP.
I am not too bad. I care for my mum who has Alzheimers, we have bad days and good days and at the moment we are having a good spell. Its the UTI's that have a massive effect on her and it starts a downward spiral.
I am going away for a week on Friday - a well needed break.
hope you are feeling a bit less lonely now you have found us all. love and hugs xx

Glad you are having a good spell, we are at the moment. It is so hard coping with this 24 hours a day and know what you are going through. I hope you have a really good week and enjoy your break you deserve it. Everyone is trying to talk me into taking a break but its hard isnt it, where does your mum go when you are away. Yes I do feel less lonely now I am talking to people on TP. Know what you mean by UTI's my dad used to be like that when he had dementia unfortunately he has died now but he was 94 and did have a good life. Once again enjoy your break. Lots of love xx

It must be very difficult for you. My mum still lives on her own (for how much longer I don't know) and I work full time so go after work to help her as she has no short term memory and is doubly incontinent.
My sis will look after her while I am away, but she works also - she is a nurse. It is difficult juggling work and caring. Luckily I have an understanding boss - I need it with all of the appointments and things that need doing

Julie, I am "away with the fairies" this week!! I am Irish and that expression means " I don't know whether I am coming or going"

Keep in touch with the support workers. You must be safe too.

I don't understand how to accept friend request but I think I managed to do it properly.

Keep posting,

Aisling xx
