Hello, my husband has been in a specialist dementia care home for three years. His behaviour is not challenging any more, in fact he is totally comatose, no sight, no speech, no movement, but still hearing and eating/drinking. Just really requiring full time nursing care. I want to move him to a more peaceful, less noisy, troubling setting - a non-dementia care home , nearer to our home - even considering having him home again, for his final (how long?) months/years. His current care home is supportive of this possible action, but obviously it is not a request they've had before. Has anybody got any experience of this? Am I crazy? I still have to see whether I can get his care home fees, which are part paid by social services, transferred. If it were possible to have him back home, what sort of support would we qualify for?
