After months of broken nights and weeks of not being able to leave Gary on his own, not being able to go to the loo without him trying to get into the bathroom or do anything in the house without him hovering near me, watching, panicking if I go out to the dustbin and forget to tell him what I'm doing, I've been offered a sitter for two hours, two days a week and a place at a day hospital one day a week for assessment! I feel like I've won the lottery at the moment and if things change later and he can't continue with what's on offer at least I've got some help now, I just need to make the most of it! :)

Thanks all
chris, this sounds a bit pathetic but I have no idea what to do with the time :(
I've lost touch with most people now, they drift away you know
I may just enjoy spending time on my own in the house, we''l see. The sitter is allowed to take Gary out which I think would be good for him :)

I feel thrilled for you Elaine and know how important it is.
may just enjoy spending time on my own in the house, we''l see
When I first had time to myself I enjoyed being alone with the music LOUD. But I do think its important to get involved with the rest of the world and hopefully a new hobby/interest. When you are ready I guess thats what you will do.

Hi Elaine. This is good news.

Remember it is `me ` time.

Go and have a massage or your nails done:)

On a serious note it is so important to get Gary used to you not being there all the time
so when the carer comes try and go out yourself or let them take Gary out.

I hope everything goes well.

Best wishes, Angela.

very good news to hear that you have help. As you mention a camera, why dont you enter the Countryfile calendar photographic competition details on the Countryfile website. Just a suggestion for a new project to fit in with your new "me" time.

:D:D I know!!!! You could go out and take photos!!!:D:D;);)

TBH Just spending time alone in the house will be good tho.
Just relaxing, wandering around with no one following, just pleasing
yourself is not a bad idea!

People do drift away over time its true, so now maybe its time for
something completely different. You need to 'find yourself again'
so quiet contemplation at home won't do any harm.

at last... Enjoy Elaine, make the very most of ME time!
even if it were to have a proper nap, knowing that you can quietly sleep...
wash your hair and tae the time to condition it too...
go for a walk, to the cinema...

ME, ME, ME time! well deserved!

Elaine, hi
I'm so pleased for you and know exactly what you mean by 'what will I do', I have to go out as hubby and sitter are happy watching DVDs or listening to music, I walk, walk in the rain or whatever and it's so good.
Gary will be fine, and I hope get's as much out of his time with a sitter as hubby does.
Great news and it's the way to go.
With kind regards from Jo

That's wonderful news Elaine. I knew someone who got respite like this and the Princess Royal Trust for Carers organised therapy sessions for her - things like reflexology etc. I wonder if it would be worth seeing if they have anything on offer in your area. x
