Is there any benefits with coping with Alzheimers?

My OH has Alzheimers with carers helping out three times a day. Is there any help towards electric bills and water bills (due to bowel incontinence - so much washing) or with heating (he is always cold). Any ideas?

Contact your water company, they might have a reduction scheme you qualify for. My water company has two, unfortunately we don't qualify for either, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

If he's over a certain age and in receipt of State Pension, he will qualify for the annual winter fuel allowance.

Check whether he's eligible for Pension Credit. It comes with cold weather payments for very cold weeks.

He can also apply for Attendance Allowance. It's not means-tested.

You could check whether you qualify for Carers Allowance.

Last but not least, he should be exempt from Council Tax due to severe mental impairment. Contact your council.

Don't get disheartened by red tape, organisations like Age UK, CAB or the Carers Centre can give you a benefits check and help you fill in any forms.

I have just got the warm home discount on our electricity bill £140 discount for the year it depends on your energy suppliers and age. The letter that came was for my dad without checking the letter I think he got it as he is over pensionable age ( he's 91) I've also got a 25% carers discount on our council tax bill.. I've looked on our water suppliers website but could not find any link there because I too have a lot of washing.. But I suppose 2 out of 3 isn't bad xx
