instant messaging

i'm sure someone out there has thought of this already, but i was thinking how utterly great it would be to have a chat room for this forum. i have found the forum brilliant in terms of reading peoples threads and posting a chat room would provide more instant feedback...
just an idea if anyone would know how to implement it...?

Yes, it has been discussed before. I believe the decision was that the oderation mifgt be too difficult.

Also, some of the problems need some thought or research before answering.
