Hi I've just registered, so here goes!

My Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimers 2 years ago & Mum is his only Carer.

They both live in South Yorkshire and unfortunately none us live near enough to give direct support, so everything is done at long distance.

We are trying to get some support for Mum from Social Services via a Needs Assessment. I've read loads of information about them, but wondered if anyone had experienced one direct and could give me the benefit of their experience before we book an assessment.

Thanks, looking forward to receiving lots of informative replies.

HI Irish

Welcome to TP.
I can't help you out because I don't get any help whatsoever as my dad refuses anything, he won't have outsiders interfering as he puts it.
That means he also takes no medication and its constantly an uphill struggle.
I'm sure there will be someone along shortly who'll give you the much needed advice you require.
Good luck

hi irish, i am glad your dad and mum are having an assesment,it helps to show what type of help you need, whether it be domestic care at home or respite you need to be explicite maybe go through it with them over the phone,if respite is needed by mum make sure they ask, or any information they made need. good luck:)bclark
