Our latest magazine shares ideas about helping a person with dementia to keep enjoying baking. These include simpler recipes and specific tasks like kneading, and reminiscing or watching baking on TV.

Do you have any tips about this that we could share next issue? Share your ideas (and any pictures!) here by 4 March, or email them to magazine@alzheimers.org.uk

Thanks everyone :)

Thanks @canary and @nitram. I agree, Barry's baking thread was wonderful!

I'll be closing this thread on Friday, but there's still time if anyone wants to add their tips on making baking more enjoyable for someone with dementia.

My dad used to be the master baker — cakes, brownies, and cookies from scratch and waffles.

We’ve moved to using mixes and prepared frosting (thank you Betty Crocker!) now as it’s much easier for him to manage to mix. And he always does it with me (daughter) or his caregiver. That we can just supervise or help a lot if he is having a confused day. We sometimes make extra waffle batter to leave in the refrigerator so he can have “fresh waffles” on another day.
Overall this seems to keep his brain actively engaged and he’s more alert.
