Hello and welcome Margaret.

I'm in a very similar position, sole carer to Mum however we don't live together. I work for the local authority and have been told that I'm not entitled to paid leave but my job is safe.

It's worth you asking your employers as they may have a different policy to mine.

I don't think you entitled to be paid but you could ask to be furloughed if your company offers this

I know some of my colleagues with children have done this, as they can't work enough hours whilst looking after the children (we are all working from home anyway)
