Hygiene or lack of it

My mum has issues bathing and hygiene. Earlier this year she had a couple of emergency trips to hospital with a water infection. Her personal hygiene is non existent. She lives independently with extra care. Even then the carers can't force her to shower. This ends up with her having a very sore "bottom" she says she has a stand up wash at the basin and uses tubs and tubs of Sudocrem during the day. Where I would think the easiest solution would be to shower every day. It's so frustrating when she can't see this. I change her wash cloth every day and her towel as they get stained pretty quickly. She also wears pads and this makes things worse. I lay out clean clothes every few days but she stresses out thinking she must have an appointment where I just want her to change her stained top. It seems we just have to stand by and cope with things as they happen. I'm afraid she is going to end up using up our NHS resources again for something that can be prevented with a wash!
