I am currently supporting a gentleman with dementia, he lives at home with his daughter who works full time. He enjoys going out for a walk, currently has a GPS tracking device but doesn't always take it with him and when he does, it's not always accurate. Does anyone have any experience of using these types of devices who could recommend one? He went out yesterday, the dog got away from him and social services and the police had to be called. He did arrive home safely but we need to put measures in place to safeguard him.

Hi @Emma Link and welcome to Dementia Talking Point. This is a very friendly and supportive community and you'll get lot's of help and advice here.
This topic come up quite often and below is a link to posts that mention trackers that might help you decide if there are any out there that would help in this situation. It sounds at the very least though care needs to be taken when he takes the dog for a walk. It maybe getting to the time when more care needs to be put into place.

Thank you, we have already increased the care with a view to accompanying him to maintain his safety, however, the risk comes when he chooses to go out before the carer arrives. I'll have a look at the link - thanks.

It may be worth putting a sign on the inside front door.
’ Please wait for Pam before walking the dog’?
Could you sew a pocket inside the lining of his coat for the tracker?
( Hiding all the other coats, maybe say they have been taken to the cleaners? )
