Home visits from private neuro physio?

Briefly, I have a thread running about my wife Sue who has advanced AD and also PD and who has lost her mobility 36 hours after what may have been a fit or a faint from low BP. A community physio got her walking on 3 visits some weeks later. He was a general physio rather than a neuro physio but on three occasions in fairly quick succession he got her walking with support and she was able to take a few paces holding onto a walker without any other support. Then he didn't come for a week and when he did come she was back to square one. There was one further visit, after several missed appointments, and another gap of a week. Again it was unsuccessful. Then he stopped, saying they were a short-term service, but recorded that he had stopped because she could not follow instructions - there's a surprise!

I am trying to find a private neuro physio who does home visits in the Manchester area. There only seems to be one on the Chartered Institute site. I contacted her but who is not doing private work now as she is working full-time. She kindly gave me one more lead to try but I just wondered if anyone on TP knows of such a person/service?

Pretty desperate after a couple of months so thought I would just try this.

You could look at the OT Independent Practice website as well.

OTs and physios often work together, so an OT in your area might know a specialist physio. Bearing in mind that some professionals work in both the NHS and private practice.

Yes, that's the site Spiro. It has the outfit that nitram has linked to - in Cheadle. I missed that in my first look.

Thanks also for the OT link. I might try someone there for contacts. One of my stepdaughter's best friends is a neuro physio and actually works closely with an OT in the way you describe. That OT lives near us and has visited and given useful OT advise but the physio doesn't do private work and couldn't suggest anyone.

Have you thought about contacting the Walton Centre in Liverpool. It's a neuro specialist centre.
They may know of someone who works privately.

Thanks Spiro, this was the one the woman I contacted today suggested. They're on the Chartered Inst site but I think it didn't make clear that they will do private visits but she told me they do so...o the list.

I tried one of those outfits mentioned above (better not say which) on Monday. Explained Sue's situation and mentioned AD and PD, asked if they had people who were familiar with PWD. Yes, they were all neuro physios with the appropriate experience. She would talk to them as they came in and would get back to me Tuesday. Tuesday - no contact! I phoned on Wed. Not to worry she was still asking around and would be in touch. Silence since then. Pretty poor!

Tomorrow, I'm going to try two, one after the other whatever the response of the first, and hope that at least one of them is up for giving it a go. If they're not, that's the end of the shortlist.

I do have a suggestion regarding the hoist, but don't have time to look through your previous posts on this issue. I'm not a physio, but I've spent a lot time discussing this issue with physios.

Could you PM me details of the hoist?

OK, I didn't stick to my plan of calling two but the first one sounded good (apart from the price) and have actually given me a time that suits me. The person they have in mind does home visits at weekends and they will check that he is working next Saturday and get back to me.

Good Luck with the new physio. Usually the first visit is at least an hour long, so they can do a thorough assessment.
