holiday insurance

I wonder if anyone can give me any advice on holiday insurance.

My Mum is 91 years of age and has dementia and is in a CH. My husband has booked a "holiday of a lifetime" for us in August. the doctor also suspects she may have bowel cancer but we have opted not to have any tests as at her age and in her condition this would cause too much stress (the Doctor and CH agree with this decision).

My question is: Should I inform the insurance company? Is there any additional insurance I could take out in case we need to cancel?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Anne,

Personally I would declare it. Insurance companies wriggle when things go wrong. I have used an insurance company which specialises in pre-conditions, send me a PM if you need the company name. You can input the illness for each person in the party anonymously to check the quote - not had to claim but they are recommended by 'Which'.

Also check out this brilliant factsheet - Travelling and going on holiday:

or Phone the Alzheimer Helpline:

Sorry Anne,

I just re-read your post. I see where you are coming from.
You are off on holiday and worried you may need to cancel or return if there are issues with your mum before you leave or if you are away?

If that is the case, you may ring to get a quote. My guess, and it is a guess, is that they are unlikely to cover this scenario. But if you PM me for the company name no harm in asking by email or phone.

Apologies for not reading the post more thoroughly.

Kind Regards
Craig
