Hello Robert

You could have a look at the Alzheimers Society's Fctsheets to start with. You will find them here.

http://www.alzheimers.org.uk/factsheets

Once you've found the fact sheets relating to you and your father, post again and ask away.

You have a lot to come to terms with. Just take it slowly

Hi Robert, don't panic! There are lots of people who have been there and got the t-shirt, so yes ask away. Organise finance and health power of attorney while your dad is still able to understand the need for you to look after his finances. For your own sanity read as much as you can so you get a basic understanding of the possible changes to come just so you can work with your dad. Also check if any get togethers in your area for people with dementia in your area, just so you know you are not alone, coffee mornings, carers meetings, tea dances. Check out personal independence payment, used to be attendance allowance. Above all don't despair.

Thankyou for the warm welcome.

I will explain as much as i know , The adult social care and i took him to hospital under section 2 (28 days) assessment

This was november and he is still in there . He is no longer under section . But has lost all capacity to carry on .

I as the next of kin , Can make decisions for his medication to be added to food . But i requested his property to come to my safe keeping for the future , He has rapidly gone done hill in this time .

I know an epilepsy medication has been used for mood swings . I understand this , But i do not understand is why these drugs are being administrated , As a definite prognosis has not been made with an MRI scan . It is just word say .

Why i said this as he has fell down escalators a year or so ago and has never been right since .

Also as he is in a locked ward , as i said above i requested his property to me as to be honest i dont trust these establishments , as u hear all kinds of story's all ways.

Now im being told he has no clothes and they have actually dipped into to his finance to purchase some , I dont mind this but as next of kin surely i should be informed about everything that is going on , If i cant control his finance with out court of protection how can they ? .

There has been incidents with breaking glasses , head butting walls , rings lost and yet i do not get informed ?

sorry for the Ranting but saying/typing this gets of my chest

any advice would be great

Thankyou

Robert

I would object to finances being used without discussion Robert but have no experience of this happening or the rights and wrongs.

I would ask for a Best Interests meeting. If your father has been in his placement sinceNovember, one should be due.

A Best Interests meeting requires the attendance of all personel involved in you father's care, including you. Then you can hear the findings about his state of health first hand and can voice your concerns.

Sounds like you have enough to get your head around without the added concerns of mis information. I have put several links that should be able to lead you in the right direction financially and legally with regards to property and next of kin. It is a minefield with lots of information available.

I would question if there was anything underlying from when your dad had the fall, ask for an MRI as you say he hasn't been right since.

https://www.gov.uk/attendance-allowance/overview

https://www.gov.uk/dla-disability-living-allowance-benefit

https://www.gov.uk/pip/overview

https://www.gov.uk/wills-probate-inheritance/overview

https://www.gov.uk/council-tax/working-out-your-council-tax

I apologise for so many links but the information should answer some of your questions especially as you mentioned next of kin and trying to safe guard your dads property. Does he own the property as this opens up a whole load more of information such as joint ownership, tenants in common, savings. And some of these links will direct you to other sources of information.

Good luck and sorry if I've bombarded you but to be forewarned etc.,

They say he is not stable enough for a MRI they have rules and wont take him . this is the second time , i ranG to ask the ward doctor to ring me and yet nothing , he refuses to ring me . This is total rubbish as i had to ring another ward to speak to another ward manager for her views . Her view was "this is strange" . Also the care manager on my dads case said this is weird.

But when i delve deeper every one clams up.I cant name the place i i will be contacting the whole "ceo/manager" in the morning
