Hello All
my dad (75) is now in the final stages of this life sapping disease after a 10 year struggle. Last November we had to move him into a nursing home , as mum was struggling with her own breast cancer chemo and radiotherapy treatment.
First part of the year was OK as we all struggled with the upheaval of moving dad into nursing care.Since May 2010 he has deteriorated significantly , losing lots of weight and struggling to eat , swallow and hold his head up.Most days he is now bed bound as this seems to be most comfortable for him. My mum visits the home every day.
Normal wheelchairs no longer serve his needs and I'm looking for a contact for specialist type wheelchairs with high backs and upper torso and neck head support , so that in the final months we can get dad out of the confines of his room in the most comfortable of wheel chairs, even to walk him around the grounds. We are looking to purchase (new or second hand) or rent such an appliance.
I live in Sussex , my dad and mum are in Kent.
Hope someone out there might beable to help with this.
Take care all

Hello Deborah:

Our Nursing Home Manger was able to recommend a private supplier who would come out to the NH and assess my husband's needs. Other carers of residents had good experiences of this particular company.
Unfortunately he deteriorated beyond that and now he uses just a basic one rarely.

I would ask the Manager and other relatives of residents within the Home.

In my mum's home there are armchairs shaped like buckets which look very comfy. Is it definitely a wheelchair you are after?

Good luck, hope you find something to suit. x
