Well we had a new carer today!! I am sure the lady meant well but her visit didn't half leave me feeling as though I am a dreadful carer. Why wasn't laddo having proper meals (cos he wont eat them),why were his feet so dry (because he can't stand me creaming them),why wasn't he in the bath every day (because he can't stand the feel of water), why wasn't he walking (because the chest infection has knocked him off his feet), why didn't I lift laddo properly (because I haven't had the appropraite training) why wasn't he exercising daily (no physio - due soon. Net result - carer thinks 6 weeks in a care home would work wonders.:eek::eek: I should cocoa!! But clearly I ought to be doing a lot more - if only laddo was that cooperative. To top it all the new carer is a specialist in dementia. Great! Heigh ho - tomorrow is another day.:)

Dear sammy,

They may be an expert in dementia but they are not daling with it 24/7, 365 days of the year.

You are doing a good job, you know what your laddo wants and does not want.

Good luck
Christine

Dear Sammy,

This person may be trained in the theory of the job..but obviously has little practical experience...

Ask him/her to spend a day with you......

Sadly in this situation you need to stay on top of the caring..stand your ground..and DO NOT let this person intimidate you....

You are the person in charge..and doing a grand job....

Love gigi xx

Sammy, do not despair.

You are the one - doing the job - 24/7. (Not 9-5, 5 days a week).

Can truly understand how you feel but..............please try to work with her. She is all you have on your side at present.
(It makes me feel ill to have to say this)

The proffessionals........try to get them on your side. (If needs be, print out some of your posts here).
You really need to get them on your side, by fair means or foul.

Please keep us updatedad to how things go. Much love , Con

They are on side I am pleased to say. Fortunately one of the other carers came too and it was lovely to hear her trying to cut across what the other carer was saying/asking because she has 20+ years experience and a lot more knowledge and understanding of laddo. I am sure the new carer was trying to be OK really and perhaps I was being a little too sensitive to what I preceibved to be adverse criticism!

Love from sammyb

To top it all the new carer is a specialist in dementia.

Now thats good news , because Its hard coping alone . Now you can stand back take a break & she can do the job she paid for .

Hello Sammy

It does go against the grain when a new person doesn`t SHOW you how to do it `properly` but proceeds to TELL you.

I would find it very hard to keep my cool.

So thank you for posting, for it has given me a warning of something that just might happen in the future and perhaps prepared me.

For I agree it`s best to try to keep the professionals on side.

My first thought is "book learning": all theory and little practice and I'm really sorry you're having to provide this "expert" with the experience they should have had to become an expert. She'll either learn PDQ or fall by the wayside I suppose.

Hi Sammy

She may be an expert in dementia (and haven't we all met them!), But YOU are the expert on Laddo.

And you're doing a grand job, don't let anyonetell you different. You can now take over her training in the practical side of caring 24/7.

Love,
