Has TP display changed or have I got some settings wrong?

or just feel the query is out of their experience.

That is how I feel with some posts. I just can't say anything constructive but that doesn't mean I really wish I could. Some yhreads are very specialised and only with a bit of luck is anyone around that can offer first hand advice.

I think I am a thread killer. I post and everyone else clears off.:D

Got to prove that wrong Lemony!;)

i have the ABC and tick but having followed all the instructions can't find the button to press to accquire the actual spellcheck. It seems to be all amendments or something.

It is not nice to see that 20 people have read your post but not replied.

What Sylvia said is right, Lemony. I often read a post but have no relevant experience to offer. If it's a new poster, I at least try to post a welcome, but if there are a number of helpful replies, I don't do anything.

Don't forget too that it is the number of views that is recorded, not the number of viewers. If it's a long, very active post, people will read whenever there is a new post, but won't reply every time, so the same person may have viewed a thread dozens of times, but only posted a few.

Speaking for myself, I'm always pleased people have read what I have to say, even if they don't feel they can contribute.

No spell check icon on my Mac using Firefox or Safari.

Without wishing to be hyper critical I tend to agree with John that the developers cannot be testing across the platforms and with different browsers.

The spelling thing is non-fixable I think - it's just a mac/pc inconsistency that has always existed. I remember it being raised a few years ago. As for the other issues - embarrassingly this mostly down to the moderating team - we generally do the testing and while we find most of the bugs, we don't always find all. So sorry

P.S. As to the different platforms/browsers. While there are two main platforms (Mac and PC) and 4 browsers (safari, firefox, internet explorer, chrome) the versions of the underlying software (Mac OSX and windows) are also relevant - I've never been very good at statistics but I think the possible permutations may well be in the hundreds if not more.

No need to apologise Jennifer, why should the mods have to do the testing? That's so unfair! Web developers are supposed to do this - it's their job!!! It's a bit trial and error then, but perhaps the developers are volunteering too :)

Well aren't you special Sylvia? :D

I have spell check in that it underlines the word if it is "faulty" (and sometimes that seems to be every word, honestly), but I don't have that box that Sue shows on her screen shot.

Let me go off and check safari.

P.S. No - don't see it on Safari either.

PPS Jancis - I don't want to mislead you - they do do an awful lot of testing before we get to play with it, but the reality is that we (the mods) are on the website and using it far more that any developer is likely to be, so we are (or should be) more aware if things aren't as they were.

No I don`t have the ABC tick box. I had it on my lap top. I just have a spell check Jennifer and I don`t know how I got it.
I`ll be embarrassed if you wish. ;)

No need to be embarrassed - I was just feeling very envious that's all. The green eyed god can subside now. :D

Spell checks are OK but predictive text can be a pain.

My ipad has predictive text and every time I reply to Saffie it automatically changes it to safe and I then have a tussle with a computer.

Firefox spell checker can be turned on by going to

Tools
Options
Advanced
and tick the box which says Check my spelling as I type.

However Jancis, not sure this will work for Mac computers.

To do that on a Mac it's Preferences > Advanced > General and "check my spelling as I type"

Now you've given me a guilty conscience, Sylvia - shall i change my user name? I'd hate to be thought of as safe though - sounds much too staid!;)

I have just checked mine but it was on already. If you don't have a spell check programme loaded then it looks like the software won't run.

Like others i like the new layout but miss the view count.

I like the view count......then again i love numbers  i like working out the percent ratio of readers......i know .....i know .....i can't help it

When i sign in, about 3 out of 10 times it takes me straight to my pm's - even if i don't have any

I also like subscribed threads but since the change over weeks ago can't access "Quick Links" without opening a thread :( or is that just me going through the wrong door?

I have ABC but forget to use it

But on the whole, i think its a better layout ;)

You can access Quick Links by clicking Forums, Alex. Not as easy as it used to be, but I'm getting used to it.

One thing that still niggles me is that you can't get straight back to a forum after reading a thread. Everything now seems to take at least two clicks, instead of the one it used to.
