I have a question about my failing memory. I have done tests with my GP to no avail. I am being told that I have GAD (generalised anxiety disorder. I know that my brain isn't what it used to be and I accept that at 71 yrs of age that it happens, but this is ridiculous!! I forget what I've done 30 seconds ago and am in a state of confusion all the time.. can't remember famous people's names or even people I have known for years. Please could someone tell me.. is this the beginning of the end????

Hello haras

I`m really sorry you are so worried. It doesn`t sound as if your doctor understands your concerns. Do you think you could ask to be referred to a specialist consultant , someone who is more sympathetic to your worries about your memory.

Has the doc tested you for other possible causes? I have both thyroid failure and pernicious anaemia. Bith cause mind fogs and are not that rare. Easy to treat but difficult to diagnose. If you have been tested demand a blood test. Love quilty

I may be in the wrong place but what I want to say is.. yes, hypothyroidism and gluten sensitivity could be the cause of my brain fog but surely it couldn't be as bad as this??

I have both. My thyroid failed at 20 and brain fog is a common symptom. You just cabt keep you thoughts straight in your head. I accept days like this now and try to rest more and relax. Stress srems to make it worse.

I just hope I have stress, I seem to be thinking for OH (B) and mater that me time gets lost, I forget little things but I think and hope it is because I am so far ahead of myself I think I've done it. Now I have to say to self, Do now not when you have seen to B or mater.

So I now, feed birds, take bread out freezer, lay table, organise B's pills before I sit and talk to friends.

edit**, (see forgot to say something) at the moment I am having trouble with mmy internet provider who keeps telling me to change password, so what with that, then all the ones at work, and then the ones for different sites, and then there is internet banking........then we have pin numbers, mine, B's and then mater's no wonder I am going doowaally.

The National Dementia Helpline may be the best port of call. It will be sympathetic and understanding and perhaps be able to advise on the next step to take.

http://forum.alzheimers.org.uk/faq.php?faq=resources#faq_resources_helpline

You can contact our helpline by calling 0300 222 1122 or by email at helpline@alzheimers.org.uk.

The helpline is usually open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, and from 10am - 4pm at weekends. However, the service may be closed occasionally during these times for operational reasons.

I find pernicious anaemia the worst for brain fogs. I get vit b12 injections every 2 months. In the last 10 days or so before next one i forget words and forget what i am doing. Lucky for me my boss is very understanding as his brother has it. I even get slurred speach.

Point of note. Japan has lowest rate of alzheimers in world despite long life. They also have a very high rate of b12 treatment as their threshold for treatment much lower than Europe. Makes me think there is a clue there!
