My wife has started having hallucinations about other people being in the house. She also appears to be very frightened, emotional and needing constant reassurance. This is a new development in her condition as previously she was happy to discuss her memory loss and treated it as a joke. The GP says the new symptoms are because she has become depressed and wishes to treat her with mitrapezine. Is hallucinatory behaviour common with Ahlzeimers.

I'm no expert but Lewy Body Dementia rather than Alzheimer's is the one most linked to hallucinations. The doctor at the Memory clinic may be better at identifying the cause than a GP who is a generalist rather than a specialist in dementia.

Perhaps you mean delusions and not hallucinations where she sees people?

Best regards at this difficult time.

Danbar; my hubby never got diagnosed with dementia type, but his hallucinations were dreadful and lasted, sometimes, every waking moment.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Could you chat with your doctor again; see if any medication might help?

Hello Danbar my hubby see's people in the house all the time, 3weeks ago l could not get him back in tha house, as he thought this man was going to kill him, after 4 hrs he came back in, Dr. prescribed Memantine, he has been alot calmer, but the people are still there, but he likes them now, they are his friends, he has been waiting all day for one of them to take him to London, all l say is maybe its not today, he may come tomorrow, he is so sure he is coming today, such an awful illness l just go along with everything he says, if not he gets very angry. This may help you to know you are not alone.
