Groups or days out for people with similar interests

Hi, a close relative has dementia, and his most vivid memories are those when he was a train driver, in particular steam trains. I am trying to find out if there are any groups for people with similar interests where they can meet and share stories and experiences, or get to handle tools and equipment. There was something on TV ages ago about a group for people who used to work in farming, so was wondering if there was anything similar for those who used to work on the railway. Thanks for reading.
