dad has vascular dementia which is fairly advanced and lives alone.. apart from needing care from his family and carers for his meals cooking and cleaning he is quite active and likes to go walking alone.
he has always done this and has good road sense but we would like to know where he is at any given time of the day.
has anyone here had any success with gps tracking or similar? we want him to stay active and independent for as long as possible.

If you have an iphone you can download an app called find a friend. All you need is a sim card with wi fi and you can track the phone to exactly where the person carrying it is. The best thing is to have an iphone as well so you will have 24 hour access to watching where your dad is or you can just follow his footsteps on the computer. It is so easy. For us the only difficulty is the other half does not like the phone so we have had to discreetly put it in his zipper in his jacket (put phone on silent, he know something is in pocket but does not know what sometimes that irritates him but at least we are ease knowing where he is when he goes wandering off).
