It was on the news yesterday that the gov plans to reform the power of attorney process - making it easier to fill in digitally. I haven't read the proposals in detail but, although they are good, I'm not sure they go far enough. Without my mum's foresight of completing a POA we would have had even more of a nightmare organising her care - and we didn't have the right one for health and welfare so we were blocked from talking to her GP about her condition. I believe POAs should be made much easier (and cheaper) to complete - and that everyone should be encouraged to complete one, not wait until capacity is going. At the very least, on diagnosis of dementia GPs should be required to give information about this.
