I have not posted here for a long time. Now sadly I have to say that my gentle, serene and caring Jen has passed away. She had superb care in a specialist unit for the young with dementia and her end was calm and serene, reflecting her nature.

My Sister (who is very clever, not like me!) wrote a 'Sonnet for Jen' and sent it to me and my daughters. The Minister used it at Jen's funeral. It was very moving and many people have asked that it be shared. With the permission of the writer I set it out below.

SONNET FOR JEN

For eight long years we had to watch until
we saw the illness strip you of your mind.
It robbed you of your past, then, greedy still
it stole your future too, your dreams consigned
to dust by its unstoppable advance.
The nurse became the nursed,the mother a child;
the wife a helpless charge,as cruel chance
emeshed you and your ordered brain defiled.
Your busy hands fell idle and the walks
you loved were halted as you lost the skill
to move;all independence gone,even talks
with friends were blighted as your tongue grew still.
Now Death has brought you dignified release.
The turmil's over, gently rest in peace

My sympathy David at the loss of your dear Jen.
There is never a right or wrong time to die but being so young is especially cruel.
May you and your daughters find comfort and strength from the release of Jen's illness
and find solace in your new lives.
