I went to my Lions Club dinner tonight and someone has put a lot of photos from old Club events on a PowerPoint and they were being shown on the TV. There from time to time would appear a photo of Ray doing some kind of activity. I was a teary a couple of times as were a couple of our widowers who also saw their late partner looking twelve years younger and full of health. I think it is a great idea and a welcome trip down memory lane, I just wish I had had some warning first.

Some warning would have been nice @sunray. It is fine to see ourselves 12 years on, a little greyer, a little fatter but still ourselves. It is so different when dementia has changed us it is so much more than than a little greyer and a little fatter. Hope it did not spoil the night too much for those who had dementia in their lives.

Heatwave in Oz so I am trying to stay cool. Doing all my activities first thing in the morning, keeping inside after lunch. Without the toe to waist stockings I would go swimming but it is such a palaver to put them on over a sweaty body. I've done it once to please the grandchildren and that was enough. School starts back next week, I have been very lucky this holidays and have seen all of the grandchildren as Shirley and her two spent last weekend with me. Once the holidays are over it is back to the old routine. I have done a couple of nursing home visits but that is all this month. I am looking forward to catching up with old friends again.

I have had the tests to make sure my melanoma has not metastasised elsewhere. It is just a few days till I see the specialist. One test I have to do again in two weeks time as it was inconclusive. I have read one of the major reports and marvel that I can go from "nothing wrong" to so many "age related" and "mild" conditions. Honestly do we all fall apart the day we turn 70?

Hoping that all goes well - that the re-test shows conclusively that there's nothing to worry about, and that your visit to the specialist is helpful and reassuring.

I so agree that it is very unnerving, how health that seemed secure can suddenly turn dodgy.
Very best wishes xx

Test results were good. I don't have to see the specialist again for twelve months pending two more tests to come. I have some age related problems but nothing serious. I am so grateful that all was well. It was a tiring day but just to know I have passed the tests without a recurrence of the melanoma and no secondary sites is a great relief. Also grateful to my daughter Shirley who drove me to Sydney on a grey drizzly day with traffic at a standstill in several places onthe way down.

Went to my doctor on Wenesday to get some advice about the aneurysm. He burbled on a bit and I could not make head or tail of what he was saying apart from the word cancer. I looked down at the paper he was reading from and yes, seems the node that was biopsied from the thyroid was cancerous. So now I have a throat specialist and an appointment on the 29th of March to detail treatments. I am so lucky!

I am going away for a few days next week. I am just getting over a chest infection so I'm feeling pretty miserable so it will be good to get away. End of summer, beginning of autumn is wet, a shower or two most days since last Thursday. At least it is not as humid now so I am not complaining. Specialist appointment as soon as I get back. Not looking forward to that.

I will be having an operation on my thyroid probably in May. Then will have the brain aneurysm repair after I have recovered from that. Not something I want but seems something that has to happen. But I am always a one day at a time person, Ray's dementia taught me that. So will try to enjoy each day and pray for a speedy recovery.

I also wish you well Sue. So many changes with good news and bad news.

One day at a time is really the only way to go, fretting about what life throws at us is pointless when we cannot change anything.

Hope you enjoyed your few days away, yes the weather will be changing, grandaughter Kerry will hate that. She adores the heat! They will probably head north for the sun at sometime.

Thinking of you Sue and thank you for the updates.

With love
Loo xxx

Just had a week in hospital with an infection in my melanoma affected leg. It was caused by me scratching an insect bite and without the protection of the lymph glands it turned into a bacterial infection in the thigh. Lots of intravenous drugs and too much bed rest and I am home with more antibiotics. When the social worker asked me if I wanted her to call anyone else besides my daughter who is my power of attorney I realised there really is no-one else. That is what being a widow is like.
Shirley is my support in all things, with the boys being so far away everything falls on her. Life is so unfair sometimes.
