You will spend a lot of time looking after a parent even if they don't live with you.
This I find to be true. I live hundreds of miles away but manage Dad's stuff from here and I find I can spend several hours a week doing it, with no notice if something happens, which can be very difficult with my work. It's definitely easier now he's in the care home but that has not stopped outside issues happening. I think I do something every day, on average. But I wouldn't say I'm a carer per se given I'm hands-off and remote.

Thank you canary and Mrs V. Everything is starting to feel wrong. I suspect this is just the first of many more wrong turns. But hey, at least I've tried. Plan c, d, e coming up.
