Getting Dementia Patients to take their medication

My 91 year old mother is in a nursing with dementia with a lot of confusion and rage. She was recently seen by a dementia specialist on my request as she was getting very difficult to handle. He prescribed Memantine which I gave permission for her to have covertly, however she is now reluctant to taken them either normally - she often refuses to take her tablets as all she wants to do is die and doesn't see the point in taking anything that might prolong her life- or covertly i.e. hidden in her food as she is convinced that she is being poisoned. Has anyone come across this problem and how has it been solved
Many thanks

Medication's a problem with my Mum too.

Dad and the carers do their best to get Mum to take her medication (and / or eat / drink whatever it's hidden in). Sometimes making a repeat offer later works, often it doesn't. I think the only thing we or you can do is to do one's best and accept that much of the necessary medication won't be taken.

Maybe you can speak to the Dr to find out which medication is to be prioritised and that can be taken first.

Would she be open to bribery?
No chocolate until medication taken.
